Ankara (February 14th-March 1st)
After one week in downtown Istanbul, I return to TRT's
headquarters in up town Ankara.

The view from my balcony at TRT where I stay
on the edge of the city, some 1000 metres above sea level. Ahmet, my interpreter,
seem with me here. He is a really nice person to know: his English is
superb, and he also has a deep knowledge of the history and culture of
Turkey. Below can be seen a cattle truck, pure and simple! |

The buildings of the city vary enormously,
from the ramshackle to the super modern. The city has grown very rapidly
over the last eighty years or so, from 30.000 to almost three million. |

One Sunday, I
went for a walk around a nearby lake, which belongs to the University. It
was dry and cold, but then it is most of the winter here in Ankara. |

I was mostly on
my own, very relaxing after a hectic week working in TRT's studios. |

A few miles further on, I come across an old
brickworks going for a song

Later, snow brought a Christmassy scene to
the view from my window in Ankara....

brought chaos on the steep hills around the capital |
