2005. The Arboretum is lit up for the weeks
leading up to Christmas
I had read of their intention to light up the Arboretum for three
nights a week until Christmas, so tripod and camera were duly lugged into the
gardens on a clear but damp Autumn evening. I got a quick tour before the gardens
were fully open and was able to capture that wonderful 'just before dark' sky
that makes 'night' photography so worth while.
This was not part of the lighting scheme, but
forms a nice intro to the walkabout.
Later in the walk, one comes across the lake
and a fountain with a beautiful backdrop.
One of the magnificent feature trees on the
west edge of the arboretum
The Heather garden. It looked even better
when the sky was completely dark.
Some interesting textures here, enhanced by the coloured
layers of light.
A strongly back lit oak tree.
The blue light from the discharge lamps has
a splendid spooky quality.
Just right for Halloween!
This is one of my favourites, the Lime Walk.
Lit theatrically with cool light from the left, and warm from the right.
The front of the house lit up with
silhouettes of the nearby trees. This picture was taken on ISO 100
setting and 30 seconds at F4.
Looking to the western sky over the lake.
A close up of the fountain...
seen from behind, the strong back light gives
a touch of high drama, complete with a touch of mist as the temperature
falls rapidly.
A spooky look to this part of the
building.
Thank you to the very
co-operative staff who allowed me to take these
pictures. Their own site is at: http://www.dyffryngardens.org.uk/
