Has it really been two months since I last climbed
Pen y Fan? I know, only I can answer that! It just so happens that when
I climbed it this morning ( April 9th) it was very cold and lots of hoar
frost above about 2000 feet. Not very spring like. Still, I started
climbing at 9 am and was on the top by 0950 with no sightings of any
other climbers on my path. There were, however, some soldiers on
exercises who may even have camped outside all night.
I never tire of the view changing with the weather
and altitude.
This was my first glimpse of soldiers 'yomping' to
the summit.
Just beyond the summit cairn they were
all under this blue tenty thing.
The mist (cloud) came and went; as it
does up here. I reckon the temperature was around -3C.
Certainly a wintry look about the landscape.
what surprised me was how the summit cairn changes
from day to day as people either add stones or demolish it completely.
It always looks different each time I go.
Hey, an orange bubble has joined the blue one!
cold puddle...
Eventually, other walkers arrive; just
as I am descending.
