Another day, another long walk with camera. This old water
tower is being preserved, thank goodness.
This tree bark caught my attention. Shape,
colour and texture.
London has a 'gherkin' shaped building , too.
My first glimpse of the 'main event' is
behind some very ordinary apartment blocks.
Then, one gets an early view of one of the
fantastic towers complete with the anachronism of tower cranes.
This is Sagrada Familia. Started in 1883 and still being
built in 2005. Gaudi died nearby having been run over by a tram in 1926.
It has taken me some 45 minutes walk to get here; and it
was worth every minute.
Christ sits aloft with a crane for company.
Sheer Gaudi fantasy adorns the high towers.
I love it, cranes and all!
Fifteen different kinds of stone have so far been used in
its construction. The qualities and use of each one is listed and
painstakingly described in the small museum that one wanders through before
going aloft.
And that is by some 500 stone steps in a tight spiral.
Not for the faint hearted.
About half way up, the views of Barcelona
begin to materialise.
