Beaupré Castle-a Mediaeval Residence

A couple of miles south of Cowbridge, on the St Athan road, there is a small lay by where you can leave your car and walk across the fields to Beaupré Castle standing in splendid isolation.

Beaupre-1.jpg (65646 bytes) It has been a ruin for many years, but still has plenty of interest in the remains. Beaupre-2.jpg (40133 bytes)
Beaupre-3.jpg (57102 bytes) This plaque tells us that Richard Basset rebuilt it in the 16th century. (suggesting that it had been here in some form before that date). Beaupre-4.jpg (52168 bytes) Beaupre-5.jpg (65777 bytes)
The sunlight beckons: Come in! Beaupre-6.jpg (42992 bytes) Beaupre-7.jpg (23855 bytes) Beaupre-8.jpg (25595 bytes)

On the next web page below are some pages of the history of Beaupre which will provide much more information than I can give.

Another possible source of info on Beaupré is http://www.castlewales.com/beaupre.html
