Canada: Vancouver and The Rockies
| In August 2003 my wife was lucky enough to
attend a conference in Vancouver. It didn't take me to long to realise the
opportunities for turning this into a touring holiday. I paid my own way and
spent several days on a hired bike exploring Vancouver and its immediate
vicinity. After the conference finished, we visited Vancouver Island and then
made our way up through Whistler and Clearwater to Jasper.
After a few days we
then drove south to Bow Lake via the magnificent Icefields Parkway. One night in
the charismatic Num-ti-Jah Lodge and several days 'chilling' in Banff finished
the trip before flying home from Calgary. |
 |
| I took my film camera as a standby, but in the
event took all my pictures (300+) on the Canon EOS 10D, downloading them onto my
laptop each day. Below you can take a visual ride for no expense to that
magnificent country. There are also some panoramic pictures
here.
Firstly though, a picture sent to me from
relations in Canada showing dramatic scenes of the forest fires mostly in and around
Kelowna. |

This one is I find particularly poignant.
It was taken over the border in Montana, USA. |

First, you have to get there! Thomas Cook
airlines took via us the scenic route
Or, you can join our trip in
Vancouver

Hi Mike,
Love your site and
photos!
It is always
interesting seeing how others perceive your home. I was looking for a site
to send to a friend in Germany and came up with yours. I couldn’t possibly
have given them a better look at my city. So thanks very much. I note from
other comments that I am not alone in my praise and appreciation. Thank you
for sharing your wonderful images.
BTW I explored your
site a bit more and love your award winning Celtic
Photographic challenge entry.
Best regards, |

Dear Mike,
I am astonished at the amount of travelling you have done.
I so much I could have continued my travelling when I went to Canada and
the USA in 1999, but it seems you have done it for me. The pictures are
very captivating. I spent well over two hours looking at them and to think
you allow others to share this, it is a great thing to know there are some
genuine people in this world. Thanks for the fantastic pictures I will be
viewing again, in fact right now....!

My Niece and family are heading out
here to Vancouver Island on the 14th Oct., so they told me about your
web site. We live a stones throw from Buchart Gardens, and to see
your pictures, only confirms we did the right thing when we moved back
here 14 mths. ago. So much more to explore, and like you an avid
photographer. We are so looking forward to showing them around, and
hopefully the fog will have lifted.
A great web-site

I saw your site whilst browsing for info on
Canada and Wells Gray (Park) was the link that first brought me to your
site. My family and I hope to visit Vancouver, Rockies, etc. I mentioned
your site to my family in Devon and they too have viewed with pleasure.
Congratulations I've been on line since August and to date its the nicest
viewing site I've seen anyone put together, well done we have all enjoyed
looking.

| Here I am again; have looked at
your Canadian Rockies pictures. I am sure you enjoyed them so much, isn't it
lovely out there? We were out there in 1978 in our Motor Home, what a way to
see the Rockies being so high up. I am sure you enjoyed the trip as much as
us, We stayed at a campsite across the road from the Columbian Ice Fields,
on a very hot day too, so helped out imagination on keeping cool. |

| I have been looking on your
fabulous site at the photos of Canada. We did a couple of trips in 2000 and
2001 when we covered Jasper, Banff and Calgary, then across from Toronto to
Vancouver by car. Your pictures brought back lots of lovely memories. We're
due to go back on 9th September this year and will be visiting Vancouver
Island while we're there and am especially looking forward to the Butchart
Gardens now I've seen your pictures. It's inspired me to perhaps try and put
our own photos on the web although I don't think they'd come close to yours. |
