Cardiff, a rapidly changing city |
|
Cardiff
has changed a great deal since I came to work in South Wales back in 1982. The
taxis were all Ladas, and there were many run down areas of the city close to
the city centre. The Good Food Guide had very few entries for South Wales, but
at the time it seemed to me that the overall impression was that of a compact and friendly
city which had much to offer.
The last twenty years have seen enormous
improvements: A superb new Stadium that is the envy of many, a water frontage
that is constantly evolving yet keeping the best of the old, a shopping centre
and Victorian Arcades that blend seamlessly and restaurants and clubs that reflect the
Principalities capital status. So, if you're interested, take a closer look at the capital of
Wales.

Hello, I just visited your web site showing pictures of
Cardiff. I'm from Wales and worked in Cardiff for a number of years
driving for Cardiff Bus. I now live in Minnesota in the U.S. and have
just returned from a visit to Wales after 6 years. I wish I had come
across this site earlier. I have fond memories of Cardiff and get
homesick from time to time. This site is great!! I did notice that one
picture is out of date, which goes to show just how quickly the city is
changing. The Brains brewery is now an eatery complex. Wow, who would
have though?
Thank you for this site.

wonderful light.
Keep up the good work and Happy New Year.

| I am currently living and teaching in Japan and am
eagerly trying to prepare a presentation on Cardiff and Cowbridge for some
Japanese students who will be taking part in a homestay in Cowbridge
shortly. I stumbled across your website whilst looking for some photographs
of Wales on the internet and I was compelled to write to you and say thank
you. Not only did your website make it so simple for me to compile my
presentation but it also gave me the much needed 'contact' with home. It was
absolutely wonderful to see pictures of home that really captured the
essence of Wales when I am missing it so deeply. Thank you so much. |

I am a 76 year old who has just taken up
computing, and recently joined the internet. I was born in Cardiff, and
started work at 14 at a wholesalers in Custom House Street. In 1958 I
married and moved to Westbury Wilts, then in 1988 I moved to Glanamman in
West Wales, until 2000 when I lost my wife, so moved back to Westbury.
What a delight when I found your site, and all
my memories returned upon seeing your photos of Cardiff. You have given me
a lot of pleasure, and thank you for such great pics, regards Hugh
