Midday Sunday and we were taken to see the changing of the guard at the memorial to the unknown soldier.

This takes place on the hour, every hour, day and night and has done ever since the end of the war.

Children from a secondary school sign the book of remembrance which has also been signed by many world leaders.

Next, we visit a large and attractive park: Lazienki Krolewskie. 80 Hectares, I believe.

A lovely park in spite of the fact that Spring hasn't yet really arrived.

A memorial to Chopin. Open air concerts of his music are held here in summer.

A delightfully cheeky red squirrel.

The summer palace used by the kings of Poland. I can't remember which one.

Now we walk along some of Warsaw's poshest streets.

This memorial is to the underground resistance.

Literally, because they used the sewers of the city to move around during the German occupation.

Back to the pretty bits again, quite close to our hotel, Le Regina.

This restaurant is, we were told, a favourite of the locals.

My Polish isn't good enough to know exactly what this is, but I reckon it's an 'I speak your weight!' machine. This hotel, The Bristol, is owned by a British owner.

Some banners commemorating the student uprising of 1968.

My knowledge of the fall of communism in Poland improved considerably thanks to our guide.

Ah, the TV people, they get everywhere! A poignant little picture to end on.
And that was it, photographically at any rate. Nice food, hotels and people. Lots of memories and some more web pages on my site.

Great country, we plan to visit Gdansk next: also direct flights from Cardiff.
