In 2002, a new operator came to Cardiff: BMI
Baby. They have improved the lot of us compulsive travellers somewhat by
providing new routes into Europe.
And then there's the occasional 'chopper'.
But this is the
most impressive piece of flying kit that used to fly over The Corrie. It used to
be twice a day: just after 11am and 7pm until the Paris crash. This taken in its
last months of operation it never failed to impress me as it caught the
sun on its sleek form as it headed westward for the Atlantic and Mach 2.
Its distinctive engine noise meant that I didn't need to
look up to know what was flying over. I'll miss it.
We also get light planes on trips out from
Cardiff airport. Just cruising down the Vale...
OK, I've cheated just a bit here. I just love
this picture sent to me of a plane landing at the holiday resort of St
Marteen in the Caribbean. Only a little cheat.
This is one of the last pictures that the
shuttle Columbia took as she passed over Europe catching sunset as it swept
silently westward towards its impending doom.
