France 2004

On the last day of June, Jean and I set out for a tour of friends who now live in France. We called in at Clisson, which is Cowbridge's twin town then on to see some old French friends in Niort, before a stay with our friends the Perrets who live some 40K's north of Bordeaux near the Gironde estuary.

Next we were to meet some other ex pat friends of ours, the Escotts in their holiday Chambre D'Hote in the Vallee du Lot.

More time was spent in the valley of the Dordogne near Martel (but in the Lot department!) before going north to Foecy near Vierzon to see Alison and Peter.

First, the getting there! We planned to sail to Cherbourg from Portsmouth on the express ferry. Instead, we ended up taking the slow (but very nice!) boat to Le Havre.

The map shows our route from Le Havre on June 30th in an anticlockwise direction around France. Clisson was our first stop. If you hover over the map, you will find 'clickable' hotspots that take you direct to the page.

Otherwise, plough on down through the pages below.
