France, The Loire Valley 2002

A few miles along the road, Serge showed us a field where some of his guests were taking part in the annual world model gliding championships. Yes, here in the middle of France, Russians and Americans, Australians and Germans were all competing for the championship.

	All deadly serious stuff with anemometers aerials and various catapult launching devices for the high tech model gliders.
Sensors for air temperature and wind speed and direction are all par for the course.		On the left of frame, you can see one being launched at a high speed vertically.
	Not sure whether this a 'tweak' for performance, or a repair after a bad landing!		Wives and partners come too. No doubt an extra pair of hands is often useful.
It's a multi day event and here the various stages, heats and winners are displayed.		But it was a hot day, and we had quite a way to cycle back to Silly. And we had somewhere else to go....
