Vines in the Vale (of Glamorgan)

Grape picking is not something one normally associates with South Wales, but in fact several well established vineyards are doing quite well. One such is just a mile south of Cowbridge, owned by the Norris Families. Richard, Sue, Robbie and Ann have been growing the grapes for about eight years. Some six acres are laid over to vine, and yes, they are southern slopes!

'Glyndwr' as it is named, is now available in Red, White, Rose and since 1996, sparkling. This is quite an achievement, as Red grapes are not normally found as far north as this.

Each autumn, the Norris's get help from their friends in the 'Vendenge'. It's always a fun day (several days, actually) picking, chatting and enjoying tea and coffee breaks accompanied by home made cakes. Lunch time is a hearty hot meal accompanied by, well, a glass or two of Glyndwr, of course!
