The following morning we take off to take a look at the
surroundings. It is essentially a ski resort and although the mountains are
not huge in height, they do get a lot of snow.
In
the summer, its bikes and downhill biking.
We suss out a pleasant trail (walk) and a quiet pool.
We met a couple of British guys who are walking
a long chunk of the Trail.
The clouds are coming in, just as forecast
The trees hereabouts seem to be getting up for a walk...
Edible? I don't think so.
A Stage Coach Stop??
Halloween preparation is everywhere. People go to a lot of trouble
here to decorate their places.
I do like their friendly looking Post
offices.
Later that day, we took the advice of our friends and
visited the Vermont Country store shown here. it looks like an ordinary New
England store; until you go inside!
It is like Dr. Who's Tardis; it expands as you enter and
becomes one of the largest stores I have ever been in, a department store
all on one level.
Food and drink is only a tiny part of what is sold here.
The sign: 'Terms Cash' say it all. I believe
the store has made its owners rich by any standard, I saw some family
photographs in the store of proud Rolls Royce owners standing by their
machine.
I certainly enjoyed the free internet access in this most
characterful store.
There were all things for all people.
Just the job for those long hot summers: a
bamboo bike
two young ladies looking forward to
Halloween.
If you need wooden clothes pegs and perhaps an antique washing machine.
this is the place.
Drinks are kept in an authentic antique refrigerator.
