| One of the 'must see's' of this coast
line is the dream house of Randolph Hearst, media magnate of the latter
half of the 20th century. |
The skies are big, the land is hot but it's the
spectacle of Hearst's 'Ranch' that we have come to see. |
Clearly, we are not alone. |
It's a long, long drive from reception
to the house. 5 miles in a bus actually. |
When we get to the top, our very good guide launches
into a multitude of statistics about the cost, how long it took to
build, etc, etc. |
The steps are just the way up to... |
...a huge patio which in turn, leads to... |
...the pool to dry for... |
first you get a tantalising glimpse....
and then it fills your viewpoint |
| Like, wow! |
It's a site of excesses, of excess money I suppose,
but the story of how one small boy made his childhood dream into
reality. |
| The guest quarters are a bit flash too. |
