St David's Day 2004 was even more special to the inhabitants of Cowbridge than usual. HRH the Prince of Wales included Cowbridge on his St David's Day agenda which started at St Athan and ended in Cardiff for a celebration concert. He came to a special civil service in Holy Cross where he was to see Cowbridge's mediaeval Charter, in the flesh so to speak, on a rare trip from the Records Office.

The police motor cyclists heralded a Rolls Royce bearing our Royal visitor. He stepped out into the cold but bright spring sunshine, and the visit began. First, he walked and talked with some of the hundreds of people behind the barriers.

People of all ages waited patiently for the Prince to arrive. The first Rolls actually carried the Lord Lieutenant of Glamorgan, Norman Lloyd Edwards, who was there to meet HRH Prince Charles and accompany him along Church Street, meeting dignitaries along with the people of Cowbridge.

All waited with good humour enjoying the sunshine and atmosphere.

Assembly Minister, Jane Hutt takes an opportunity to talk to some local people.

Inside the church, the congregation waited with the benefit of music provided by organ, harp, choirs and violins.

Needless to say, Holy Cross was packed.

Councillor Susan Cox prepares to meet the Prince and escort him around the Church. The harp, of course, has pride of place on this day.

Cheering crowds welcome the Prince...

...who acknowledges their greetings

and then starts his walkabout

Now he meets some dignitaries...
