I had a short trip to London town by train in late
January combining business with pleasure. After a meeting with Simon
Jago design at BDA Associates in Soho, I decided to walk over to take a
look at the British Museum; my first visit.
What a fine building. I had only seen it in magazines
until today.
I love the shapes, textures and the light and shade.
That roof is a masterpiece of patterns.
A ground level panoramic view
Lighting is all about light and shade! The
shadows are just as important as the lighting.
Onwards to St Pancras for a Lighting Society meeting
and a look behind the scenes of one of London's most elaborate
buildings. The Renaissance Hotel.
My first view of the newly re furbished
buildings.
Designed by William Barlow in 1863 and
built in two years for a cost of £400,000 pounds.
The 2012 Olympic games have a certain
presence to the passengers arriving here by Eurostar.
A couple of iconic statues. Above, that of John
Betjeman.
Here, it's an iconic
statue of a couple meeting 'under the clock'.
That'll be a Eurostar train, then.
A closer look at the lovers.
No question, this is now one of London's
'must see' sights. The subtle use of light and colour on this fabulous
19th century building really make it even more special. And to think
that in the 1960's, it was almost demolished. It is now a grade one
listed building.
