Canada - Jasper

We completed the 800 kilometre journey from Vancouver to Jasper and were lucky enough to see Mount Robson, Canada's highest mountain. It was, as the Rough Guide puts it, 'one of the most staggering mountains that you will ever come across'. This was especially true as I believed we had already passed it in my errant map reading, and was quite disappointed.

Oh no; suddenly it opens up in front of you, white cloud pluming from its summit like wind blown hair. Fantastic!

Checked in to the Lobstick Lodge in Jasper, we go off exploring.

Mount Edith Cavell beckons.

End of a glacier, start of a river.

Jean's glad she brought a fleece. August it may be, but the height, snow and ice make for low teperatures.

Lake Maligne, is another beautiful lake in its mountainous setting, but unfortunately the smoke is here as well although we're a hundred K's or more from the nearest fire.

We opt for a boat trip. No, sadly we are on larger and less environmentally friendly boat.

Jean coped with this wobbly bridge without too much of a problem.

This is one of my favourite pictures of the holiday. As usual with photography it's a case of right place, right time.

And now it's the 'big one'. The Icefields Parkway is to take us south from Jasper through some pretty special scenery.
