June First 2008. We join our neighbours, Roy and Wendy for a walk on the wild side. Well, not too wild, but Kenfig Nature reserve is an internationally known Nature Reserve just a few miles south of the M4 as it rushes through South Wales.

To my shame, I have never explored the region and we are pleased to have the benefit of Roy's depth of knowledge of the area. As we arrive, the car park is pretty full but once out in the dunes, we are hardly aware of anyone; the area is big enough to hide us all.

The day is warm, sticky and fairly sunless.

We arrive and boot up for the sandy trail ahead. Wendy finds a horsey friend!

A family plus dogs just paddling around.

They don't grow on trees, you know...

Splashy dogs A wee pond/puddle where there are lots of damsel flies.

and here are said damsel flies doing the mating thingy.

The wild flowers captured by my shaky macro lens. Well, actually it's Jean's camera: a Panasonic Lumix camera.

Very new, very impressive.

A Coot on its nest.
Reflections always appeal to me. and then there was a spooky little wood...
and lots of lichens on the trees.

and perdy little orchids all over the place.

but lots of other flowers, too.
Roy carefully stage manages this beetle into a photographic pose.
