We're on the way to Aysgarth now. Lunch is taken in a pretty but very dark pub.

This is Wharfedale, and we are to visit the valley of desolation which is a mission to remember one Elsie Atkinson, in whose memory some trees were planted to commemorate her long life. [Ed's grand mother]

It is certainly desolate, but has a special beauty that we both appreciated.
