The following morning, I took an early morning stroll through the streets towards the Wistula river. It was cold and bright.

 

 

People were going to work, or just exercising their dogs.

Trams were also very much in evidence.

Not only in use, but still being made.

Monochrome often seems more appropriate for winter scenes.

Here is the river with the 11th century Wawel castle and cathedral behind.

This was the seat of Poland's royalty until 1611.

At that point, Warsaw became the capital city.

Of course, the multi national hotel chains are never far away.

Coffee, coke or the local beer? The choice is yours. I liked the beer.

'A pint of Tsykie, please'.

Doesn't sound too appetising to English ears!

How's your Polish? Well, we've arrived at the Wieliczka salt mine, a short bus ride from Krakow.

Still very much in production after 700 years continuous production. It is also listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. Certainly looks imposing from the outside. Some 1.2 million visitors come here each year.
