| Las Vegas is a crazy kind of place and
I was fortunate to be able to visit it in 2008 as part of a week's work.
I wanted to show Jean the best bits. |
This was our hotel, the MGM Signature. VERY nice,
super rooms. No gaming which suited us just
fine. |
On the Strip it all gets a bit more 'in your face'.
My friend John Burns, a Harley owner would like this! |
Possibly the only hotel that I have ever
been in which sported a couple of lions in reception. |
The hotel architecture in Vegas is actually quite
classy. |

and fun |

Lots of colour and style. I like it.
On the next day we drove out to see one of the
USA's most famous icons: The Hoover Dam. |
Car duly parked, we explore the visitor
centre and admire the construction of the nearby road bridge. |
Still a bit of a gap. When its finished, it will
provide a 21st Century bypass for the single lane road across the dam.
This is the view from the dam. Note the ever diminishing
water level caused in part by the 40 year drought.
Looking downstream from the top of the dam which
connects Nevada and California.
This is Lake Mead from our chosen picnic viewpoint. |
We did have a great view until this
great big 4 X 4 arrived and almost blocked out daylight to the state of
Nevada. |
Looking out into the vastness of Lake
Mead in the general direction of the Grand Canyon. |
There's this huge tower, The Stratosphere at the
northern end of the Strip. Jean and I went up to take a look. A BIG look
over the city at 900 feet. |
This is the view looking straight down into the hotel
pool. |
Then there are the fun fair rides at the
top of the tower. Yep, 938 feet up.

| I think I'd rather play with the
lions... |
