Taken off screen, rehearsal of the early part of the one hour programme. Alice, a camera assistant who is working as a focus puller sits alongside me sending instructions to the focus servo by wireless.

Back on the main stage area, it is still dry and rehearsals and lighting treatment are being finalised.

The L.P.O. are protected from the worst of the temperature extremes by a plastic curtain (kind of thing!)
Gabriel, played by Coronation Street star Geoffrey Hughes, uses his gritty, powerful voice to tell the Nativity story Liverpool style.

meanwhile, back in Herodia's castle, tension mounts.

Purely in script and programme terms...

work still going on rigging lights for the (expected) large audience.

The giant 'star' is aloft and being rigged at height from a 'cherry picker'. No cherries here in frozen Liverpool though.

Empty now, this is where the crowds will assemble to see the live show.

And they did.

This is the 18 metre tower on which Bernie Davis, principal L.D. sits with his colleagues and half a dozen tungsten follow spots.

Not to mention two cameras and a sound desk.

Bernie on stage, giving me a conducted tour of all things lighting.

One of our high cameras.
Back at Seacombe, Nerys Hughes (as Betty) has joined rehearsals. It's now Sunday and only a few hours to go. Checking on board lights.

The steadicam going through its paces. With a little help from Mark.

I had a wee walk to check lighting down by the water front.
