It's a kind of wilderness, almost a
moonscape, but with a surprising amount of colour.

alongside wide and shallow glacial rivers. |

The Mistaya Canyon. You can't go wrong
with composition in this shot. All the scenic elements fall into place.
when you stand on the 'sweet' spot. I had to wait while a professional
photographer with assistant and large format camera took what I guess
might end up as a Calendar picture. He also had to patiently wait until
red coated tourists had returned to their cars. |

As we approach Bow Lake, our overnight
destination, we take a short walk from the highest point on Canadian
highways to this viewpoint overlooking Peyto Lake. |

I waited in vain for sun to liven up the
foreground, but it was still a pretty amazing viewpoint. |

We took a short trail which takes an
interactive tour through the tree line showing the changes in plant and
animal life at the margins of this harsh climate. |

you'd hurry up and take that photograph. it's not easy standing like

Tonight we stay in Num ti Jah Lodge on the
shores of Bow Lake; yet another gorgeous setting. |

This is it, an interesting lodge constructed
in the early part of last century by one Jimmy Simpson. |
 |
Its unusual shape was determined by the
limited length of locally available timber. He wanted it to be big, and
the timbers were not big. Lateral thinking wins again. |
