Canada - The Icefield Parkway contd.

day15-22.jpg (68907 bytes) It's a kind of wilderness, almost a moonscape, but with a surprising amount of colour.

Looking north towards Jasper.

day15-23.jpg (47738 bytes) Sad to say, we didn't see a single bear in our travels, so I just included this screengrab of a grizzly: Ursus Horribilus

Still a lot of snow left for August.

day15-24.jpg (44597 bytes) we are on the way south having crossed the Sunwapta Pass at 2035 metres, now driving alongside wide and shallow glacial rivers. day15-25.jpg (61884 bytes)

The Mistaya Canyon. You can't go wrong with composition in this shot. All the scenic elements fall into place. when you stand on the 'sweet' spot. day15-35.jpg (44412 bytes) I'm not sure if this is the same species: anybody out there know? day15-36.jpg (73484 bytes) Tonight we stay in Num ti Jah Lodge on the shores of Bow Lake; yet another gorgeous setting.

This is it, an interesting lodge constructed in the early part of last century by one Jimmy Simpson.

Its unusual shape was determined by the limited length of locally available timber. He wanted it to be big, and the timbers were not big. Lateral thinking wins again.
