I saw this lovely relic of the '50's in a
side street. |
and this old bus brought back memories: the
destination roll is of places very close to where I was born in North East
Lancashire!
I suspect the bus is from further south. I'd be
interested to know. It looks a bit like a Routemaster to my eyes. |
This map on the side of a building was
quite useful to me to get a grasp of the size of Vancouver Island. It is
approximately the size of Cyprus. |
A few hours later, we had met our hosts,
Cary and Bev who had welcomed us to their house in Brentwood. We took a
short walk down to a restaurant at the waters edge to enjoy a lovely meal
as the sun went down. If it sounds idyllic; it was! |
This was the eatery concerned. No midges and
a beautiful view. |
Bev, Cary and Jean. |
Light and water: my favourite components
for a photograph. |

and finally, not as a complete surprise,
we were entertained to a ringside seat to the regular Saturday night
Butchart Gardens firework display that was just over the nearby hill. |
In the morning, all is calm. Same spot,
different lighting. |
Back into tourist mode for a quick (2
hours) trip to Butchart Gardens. |
They are situated in an old limestone quarry
and have been constructed in a very sympathetic way.
"Let no weed enter here". |
Here, you can see a little of of the
gardens past. The old lime kiln chimney has been preserved. |
The fountains came as a surprise, situated in
a dark corner of the gardens, they constantly sway and move in a pre
programmed, but well thought out, routine. |
All clever stuff. Made my garden water feature look
pretty ordinary. |
