Airstar Space Lighting Balloons

Colin Jones often comes along to demo some of Airstars products. He usually brings a two metre sphere made by Airstar with a light source of up to four, one kilowatt bubbles.

balloon-1.jpg (36708 bytes) First, the balloon comes out of the box. Colin Jones in command. balloon-2.jpg (45304 bytes) A little inflation from a rather heavy (65 kilos) cylinder of Helium. It weighs only a half kilo less when empty.

Just four of these 1K projector bubbles go in to the centre yoke thingy.

Initially, Colin runs them in gently at a low setting. This ensures long bubble life. It takes about £35 worth of helium to inflate.

balloon-5.jpg (16280 bytes) Let her rise on 30 metres of cable or so, and you've got an electric moon. balloon-6.jpg (21180 bytes) At this height, it gave enough brightness for a TV camera exposure without gain. Clearly, the much more powerful MSR bubbled one would be more appropriate to a night shoot. Damn fine party light mind!
