A touch of ancient and modern.
The dragon is the modern (yet ancient) mascot of Wales in front of this newly
renovated waterfront building.

It is now a bar and a trendy restaurant.

Just around the
corner (a few K's) is the Genteel resort of Penarth, with its large elegant houses
looking across the Severn estuary to Somerset. |
| The Captains of bygone ships
built them and chose to live here away from the everyday bustle and grime of
19th century Cardiff. Today, it is a fashionable suburb of Cardiff, with
good transport links to Cardiff and the Bay. There is now a regular water
bus service between the two. |

Penarth has its own
marina with plenty of up-market boats.
A few years ago, a friend and colleague of mine, Geoff
Titterton on his boat Eclipse, left for a round the world mission. He
called in recently to see me, but his boat is now in Trinidad having
successfully crossed the Atlantic in 22 days. He rejoins his boat in early
2004.
