Apparently, the Stratosphere also has two of the world's highest roller coaster rides known as:
  • X-Scream - A giant teeter-totter that propels you 27 feet over the edge of the Tower, 866 feet above the ground.
  • Insanity, the Ride - A massive mechanical arm extends 64 feet over the edge of the Tower and spins you at a force of 3 Gs for a truly mind-bending experience.
  • This pointy bit on top of the already high tower is one of the 'rides.'

    Here it is at night:

Big Shot - Shoots passengers straight up 160 feet at 45 mph (over 4 Gs) until they are 1,081 feet above the Strip. Then it drops quite quickly too!

I think this one is the X Scream.

    And, no, I didn't have a go.

Back to daytime and a view down the north part of the Strip.
Vegas does have a busy little airport which is the worlds 12th busiest and is also very close to The Strip.

Back at the hotel, time to soak up a bit of warm sunshine.

This April weather is just right for me

Another day in the desert. Even as I type that, it doesn't seem real when I look out over endless hotels and casinos. Wonderful skies.

A day ticket on the monorail is just $9 and it is quite useful for getting up and down the strip.

I took a closer look at the MGM Grand hotel where Jean and I will be spending a couple of nights on our main holiday this year.

It looks a bit on the HUGE side. But then, it has over 5000 rooms. Oh, and a couple of real lions.

Even the birds know it's spring time. A bit of posturing going on here.

You can't miss the Luxor hotel (and casino) In fact, lets face it, you can't miss any of the extravagantly and madly over the top hotels in Vegas.

Bet it's changed a bit since Elvis sang about it.

The impressive glass pyramid of the Luxor Hotel.

No less impressive is the bar inside. (on the right)

Why walk to reception when you can glide, airport style on a moving pavement? A quiet Harley Davidson, now there's a rarity. Just on a plinth inside the Luxor.
next door, another extravagant edifice: The Mandalay Hotel.

I took the monorail back up the Strip to the even newer Wynn Hotel.

    Very plush indeed...
