Caroline and I take the elevator to the viewing
platform at 520 feet. It carried 20,000 people a day during the World
fair back in '62.
I hope it's had a service since then... |

Mt Rainier in the background
According to Wikipedia it is a
'stratovolcano in Pierce County, Washington, located
54 miles (87 km) southeast of
Seattle. |
 |
I did take a sequence of images that will
form a 360 degree panorama from the top, but haven't joined them up yet.
Eventually it will be displayed here. |

After Seattle, we drive north to the giant Boeing
airplane assembly plant near Everett. This is the largest building in
the world covering 98 acres or almost 4 million square metres.
It also has 1 million light fittings... |

Boeing created this rather inflated airplane to bring
in components of the new dreamliner. We were able to see the first one
being built. (but not to photograph it) |

As we arrive at the museum of flight,
its rather appropriate that there are vapour trails high in the sky
above. |

This gives one a good idea of scale of aircraft
'bits'. |
 |
as does this. Not a good place to be when these
turbines start spinning. |
|
 |
the working bits under the skin. Boeing use three
different engine manufacturers according to the clients wishes. |
|
Not sure about this; looks more like a
ships propeller to me. |

One flight deck with a wannabee captain. |

These were scanned from the Boeing brochure as we
weren't allowed to take pics in there. We were told the reason being
that someone once dropped a camera onto a wing of a 747 and caused
quarter of a million pounds worth of damage. Hmmm, what about damage to
the camera? |

These panels tell you more about building
an airplane than I could ever do. It was a great
visit, I recommend that you book ahead, its very popular. |

This is the new carbon composite hull of the
Dreamliner due to enter service in 2008. 20%
lighter than aluminium or titanium, it offers large fuel savings to the
operators. |
The Baker family now head for the
hills: the foothills of Mt Baker. So nice to have a mountain named after
one... It was about a two hour drive from
Everett via Bellingham on the I5. |
