The Cathedral of Wawel with its enormous 'Sygmunt'
bell was next on our list. We took an excellent 'audio' tour.
Photography inside the cathedral was not allowed.
a couple of kids in mediaeval costume.
There have been places of worship here since the 10th
century.
That's the wall you need to get near in
order to get a half decent shot of the front of the cathedral!
That's the bell of Sygmunt. 10 tons, I think.
Only
rung on special occasions.
Hopefully not today...
Looking down to the banks of the Wistula, there's a
symbolic dragon which breathes fire on demand.
Well, I guess it's on a
timer of some sort, actually.
The walk around the rock on which the
castle and cathedral are built, gives splendid views across the river
and city.
That took us to the end of Part One of
our tour. Next, it's Warsaw.
