Newport is a small town at the mouth of the estuary of the river   It has a few shops and is situated on one of the best bits of the Pembrokeshire Coastal path a few miles north of Fishguard. (In my humble opinion)

Our holiday house was in Parrog (part of Newport) and just a few hundred yards from the waters edge. The views are excellent.

We arrived in calm weather in late December and our first walk took us past some low tide beach.

past a 'clutch' of boats?

and a 'cluster' of sparrows. Boats are as common here as cars are in the home counties. Well, a slight exaggeration perhaps.

Even in mid winter, still a few flowers for 'foreground interest'.

May and June are spectacular for wild flowers along the coastal path.

Getting more rugged...

The acorn is the official symbol for the path which is maintained by the National trust.

The views get better...

...whichever way you look. Check out the size of the people in relation to the cliffs.

The bright yellow of the gorse is well out.

The path is easy to follow and well maintained. Scary rocks.

and peaceful bays with pebbly beaches.

All that in just a 2.4K walk from Newport.

Interesting rock formations.

and more scary views
