Summer weather in 2008 has been a bit variable so far (July) but Jean and I took a couple of days break down in west Wales; Newport Dyfed to be precise. It's always been one of my favourite Welsh places: on the Pembrokeshire coastal path, good shops, quirky villages, peaceful bays and coves, and, best of all, Cnapan, a restaurant with rooms as it describes itself.

Mike and Judy always make us welcome and produce magical food.

En route, we track down a well hidden nursery, in the middle of nowhere but full of bright pots, plants and flowers for the discerning gardener: Jean, my wife.

Everything from gooseberries to Gunerra's!

an interesting home made wooden handcart.

Lots for the photographer to get his lens into...

BBC were there filming for Gardeners World.

A few miles later on as we crossed the Preseli Hills, I saw this characterful hut made out of corrugated iron.

And then we came across the Tafarn Sinc. A pub made out of corrugated iron as a hotel for the builders of the railway in the 19th century.

It's in the eclectic village of Rosebush.

...with its own brew beer and sawdust strewn floors, it has oodles of character.

here's a nice re-creation of the old railway station too.

We arrive at our destination: Cnapan which is welcoming, as always.

Perfect place for D B & B in this part of west Wales.

Judy makes us a nice cup of tea whilst we decide on what to do.

A walk around the small town has much to offer a photographer.

Below are just some of the many shots that I took that afternoon.

Shrubs and trees grow in strange places.

I think monochrome suits the old stone steps.
