Spring in the middle of Cyprus countryside was the background to a seven day training  trip to Cyprus in April 2006. The work was based in Pyrga, an attractive village mid way between Nicosia and Larnaca. Well, roughly so!

Our accommodation was in Nicosia once again, at the Classic Hotel. The weather was... well springlike in that it was actually quite changeable and quite British with a day or two of rain and a day or two of very pleasant sunshine. Our taxi driver told us that April can bring hot sunshine or even snow on occasions. The work part of our trip can be seen elsewhere on the site, but here, it's more exploration of the fascinating city of Nicosia, Pyrga, Zygi and Lefkara.

I would like to thank you for the amazing pictures/ story telling you give at some of the places you have visited. I found your site by mistake as I was searching for pictures of Cyprus to show to my wife (I am Cypriot citizen living in Baltimore, US married to an American citizen). I wanted to show her my country and nothing gives a better description than your pictures. Especially the ones you took during the summer. You have managed to capture the essence of Nicosia. As for some other places, I have visited some of them as well, and even though I am not an expert in the matter I should say that indeed you did an amazing job. Keep up the good work, Sincerely,

Nicolas Christoforou

Spring blossom was everywhere in Nicosia. Oranges fall to the ground and are unpicked, such is the abundance of citrus fruit.

I like to walk near the Green line. It is fascinating to see deserted houses (from the 1974 invasion) surrounded by modern luxury mansions.

I am sure that soon this mixed fortunes area will become very desirable and prices will rise accordingly.

A nice architectural feature... ...and a desolate mini van!

Joining the E.U. has introduced some familiar traffic calming methods.

Some old cars...

I've seen this one before. It's still very much in use
A sawn off mini traveller becomes a mobile kennel.

The view from my hotel window.
It's market day in Nicosia, and the locals are heading that way. I just follow them...

An archaeological dig is under way to discover more of the ancient city of Ledra upon which the modern (Venetian!) walled city is built.
