Everyone knows that Death Valley is hot. It's one of the hottest places on earth and is also well below sea level. Lowest point is almost 200 feet below sea level.

Our drive started off at 2000 feet above sea level that morning at Wawona and took us up to almost 10,000 feet to exit Yosemite once more over the beautiful  Tioga Pass.

Then, a superb drive south with the Sierra Nevada mountains on our right. I really loved that drive.

a quick photo stop before we leave Yosemite.

Back on the great American highway: the 395.

A few images of that journey.

We arrived after a longer journey than we expected (America is so BIG!) at the Furnace Creek Ranch, right in the heart of Death Valley.

It was quite warm here, but not unbearably so. Just a cool 100 deg F.

Usually much hotter, the locals told us. Expect 115 in mid June.

Below, a few panoramas taken during that journey which I hope will convey the beauty of this part of California.
