Our first night was in Orford, just across from Orford Ness, scene of much activity in the dark days of World War 2.

Very tranquil and peaceful. Hardly any traffic and warm sunshine. Perfect.

We took a short walk down to the sea front.

Thats Jean, Jo and Peter Knapp, our friends.

There's a Dutch influence in the local architecture.

Orford has a rather fine castle.

with a man climbing it by a strange route!
It's all rather English.

onward to Snape. The Maltings. Lots of retail opportunities for the ladies.

and the odd old boat for the photographer.
and then its off to nearby Thorpeness.

An early example of a planned holiday resort. Truly. Look it up on Google!

I'm not sure who's teasing who, here. There's a big lake. The Meade. Lots of boats too.

As soon as you walk near the waters edge, a veritable flotilla of wild life makes a bee line for you!

Blythburgh Church was not far away and was on our hit list.
