Its three years since I last visited the gorgeous Oxwich Bay at the
far end of Gower peninsula.
June 9th 2011 saw me there once again. It was also my birthday. 6 and
7, sixty seven.
Still, the sun shone and my friend Ed and I had a nice lunch followed
by a walk along the beach and sand dunes taking a few photos as we went.
A week later, I returned with Jean and family for a
lunch and stroll along the beach.
Deja
Vu.
The sun shone through unseasonably clear skies. There
was a stiff breeze and that kept the temperature down to an unseasonable
15C.
We Brits are hardy stuff, though and will tough out a
bit of cool weather. The sky behind them suggests an approaching storm.
But it never came.
Ed and I seeked the protection of the sand dunes
where there were many wild orchids just waiting to be photographed.
Unfortunately, the combination of being at the tight end
of a handheld 640 mm lens in combination with the stiff breeze meant
that these are not as sharp as the could be.
There were many tiny butterflies, difficult to
capture as they flitted from flower to flower.
Oxwich Bay is one of the finest in South
Wales. Huge, clean and with great views.
and below is the panoramic view.
and a non panoramic view of just a tiny
portion of the carpet of wild flowers.
Great beaches, best to go midweek as the access roads
are narrow and tortuous. Lunch at the Oxwich Bay Hotel is always
enjoyable in my experience too.
Some of the wild flowers are tiny but still awfully
pretty.
Like this orchid with a nice sky behind.
and finally, as they say, just a kite
being flown by someone with a red top. Perfect!
