Summer 2007 and we were not enjoying a very good summer in south Wales. However, there were some nice days and it was one such day that I climbed Pen y Fan along with friends. The temperature was just right, it was dry and the visibility was perfect.

It is about 45 minutes drive form home and, to be fair, the car does most of the climbing. It is still about an hours walk from the car park.

out of the car, boots on and we're off... There's a very good map with details of routes and general info.

You are here says it all.

some general info on the topology and geology

Appropriate footware going on everywhere. Just over the first stile and some people are just enjoying watching the rest of us going up the mountain.

It's a pretty stream and fairly full of water after the recent (very) rains.

The track winds ever so gently upwards to the summit.

The sky is full of fluffy drama.

Looking back to the A470 and reservoir beyond.

Water gushes forth out at every opportunity.

It's not too long or too steep, you just have to keep plodding.

The army sends men up here with fully loaded back packs and they have to jog.

You are never alone on this particular mountain.

People even bring their dogs for a walk.

These two are quite high spirited.

Bit like Crufts up here...

As we near the summit, the views open out.
some interesting geology evident in the stones.
