Every now and then, an everyday village has a special
day. July 14th 2005 was special for Pendoylan in the Vale of Glamorgan
because Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and his new consort, Camilla dropped
in to see a little of village life in this tiny piece of South Wales.
Our photographer was there to record some of what
happened.
If anyone who was there would like to send me their
personal recollection of the visit, I would be happy to include it on this
page for all to share. Just e-mail me via the 'Contact me' button at the top
of the page. Any of the pictures below are available for sale, typically £10
for a 10" X 8" glossy print.
It was a very hot (for South Wales) day, roundabout 28
deg C. I was comfortable in shorts, but there were many including the Royal
Party and the considerable Police presence who had to dress smart. After
parking my car some distance from the village and walking/jogging towards
the action the Royal helicopter thundered overhead to land in a field on the
edge of the village.
I was soon close to the rear of the Royal party.
The Prince was accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of
Glamorgan; seen here on the right.
There were a number of smart, suited gentlemen eyeing
myself and others up through dark glasses. Special Branch perhaps?
Villagers were waiting under any shade
available.
The police presence, although understandably substantial,
were all courteous and helpful.
I took a position where the Prince was supposed to walk
up this row of cottages towards camera.
Meanwhile, the Paparazzi emerge from the school in
advance of the main players.
Charles in the lead, Camilla just behind.
"Shouldn't we be going down here?" Well, That's what I
thought was to happen.
Meeting the villagers continues in an informal manner.
Security is discreet but sadly a necessary
feature of our times.
I always watch the TV cameramen as to where they choose
positions. What's good enough for TV is good enough for me.
Camilla has received her first bunch of flowers.
Cameramen take position outside the church...
... for the next sighting
Somebody wasn't sure in which direction she should be
looking! (the little girl, that is)
