We were lucky to escape some appalling British
spring weather for a week in March in the Portuguese Algarve. This was the
splendid view from the balcony of the luxurious flat in the old town of
Lagos (pronounced Lagosh) just an hours drive from the airport in Faro.
This taken mid morning.
As the sun swings round to
the west, the town takes on a totally different look.
This is the river which
separates the town from the Marina. We are looking to the south west, the
old town is towards the left of frame. Still a working port, with plenty
of fresh fish to supply the many tourist restaurants. Smelt quite fishy
here, too.
The town is old and has a traditional Market at which all
manner of squidgy sea food can be bought before it slithers off the slab
on its way back to the sea. Here is the thoroughly modern marina as seen through my lens in
March of 2002. About 25 deg C. Nice.
If you drive a few miles to the west, you
round the corner of Europe and see these fantastic beaches washed by the
Atlantic. Nothing between Portugal and America.
