Arizona Skies!

The rugged red rocks of the Sedona region exceeded my expectations. And the skies, oh, the skies!

I spotted the Quail in the car park. There are many, and they were easily recognised by their little 'quiff'.

We were persuaded to take a 'Pink Jeep' tour. Can't think why they are so called.

We opted for the 'Broken Arrow' trip and duly got to the terminal for an 0800 start.

Dan was our very experienced and knowledgeable driver and guide. Even Jean felt totally safe with him at the wheel.

Looking out the back, one could see the improbable rocks that we had climbed.

Dan was telling us so many facts and figures about the environment through which we were driving.

At the zenith of our climb, the scenery was just spectacular in its beauty and unspoilt (apart from us) isolation. I could have just stayed there for hours and feasted on the visual delights that were all around. One of the high points of the trip.

As we move on, its the view of where we've just driven oh so slowly and carefully.

The skies just kept on getting better.

Back at the ranch (literally) another delicious breakfast is waiting for us. We thought it better to do the jeep trip first!

After breakfast, it's another gorgeous day.

The pool water is still a bit cool, but I did manage a few lengths.

There is a hot tub at the near end. We used that each night under the stars after dinner. Magic!

On Fran's recommendation, we took a drive out to see the remains of an Indian settlement built into the red rock hills. Literally!

This was one of the well informed guides who was very interesting. However, my photograph makes him look like a headmaster about to give someone the cane!

As we walked along, we could hear the lovely sound of ethnic flute music echoing around the hills. I thought it was carefully concealed speakers: how could I have been so cynical, it was a real person!
The sun shone brightly out of a deep blue sky as it did for most of our trip.

Far right, more petroglyphs.

Near the visitor centre, some interesting birds to photograph.

and inside, a chart to help identify them.
