Slade Wood and Garden

April 4th, 2004 saw us visiting a garden near Southerndown, Vale of Glamorgan which was open as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

The day was very April, with blustery  showers but mild temperatures. Below are a few pictures that I took.

Slade is owned by Rosamund Davies who is instrumental in organising the open Gardens scheme here in South Wales.

Please Contact Rosamund on: 01656 880048 for further details

The house is a distinguished 19th century stone property at the western end of a sheltered valley just a short distance from the Bristol channel.

From the house, a long lawn reaches down to a woodland area.

The trees to the right here, protect the hidden valley from the worst of the prevailing south westerleys.

one tree was totally covered in the most interesting lichens

Close up of just one of the lichens. The Northern edge of the garden is walled and has a south facing fruit garden looked over by a rusty rooster. A rusty rooster?

A rockery near the house

Some very un Welsh carvings down in the woods

April in Wales, so no surprises here with the national flower in abundance. The buds are bursting big time.

You can almost see things growing

On our way out, I saw this very pretty little flower; a tropaeolum.
