Until July this year (2011) I had never been up Snowdon. Embarrassing but true. I have lived in Wales for almost 30 years and had many holidays in North Wales but at the grand old age of 67, I ventured to Llanberis with Jean, her cousin Isla, her auntie Eileen (an octogenarian) and John Towriss.

The weather was fantastic as we arrived at base station (Ticket Office) It's not cheap, but it is one of those journeys you have to make.

Jean, Eileen and Isla await for the tickets. It's always busy, will we have to wait for long? With just minutes to go, it's a case of All aboard!

Is Eileen contemplating driving, perchance?

Our loco, Enid, is over 100 years old and is still going strong. We hope.

There's certainly a lot of steam adding to the ambience.
This weather is just too good to be true. A certain Edwardian feel about the platform furniture.

and we're off; chugging noisily up the mountain.

The engine is working hard; difficult to hear the commentary over the noise.
Super views all the way. Lots of people were walking up, but not here apparantly.

We pause to take on water at the halfway point.

well over 2000 feet now; looking towards the Llyn Peninsula.

At the top, well, it's busy and one has to queue to get to the viewing platform.

See what I mean?

First Jean, then me.

and a real tourist...

This tells you where the summit is; in case of fog, I guess. Enid is rested, our 30 minutes are up, time to go down again.
