| I was working in Haverfordwest on midsummer day 2002. I had
some time to explore, so I was off even further west toward the pretty
little village of Solva. Years previously, this had been the starting
point of a walk around the Pembrokeshire coastal path. Today, the weather
was not conducive to long walks! |
 |
When I arrived, on midsummer's
day, no less, the wind was blowing a gale, so much so that even opening
the car door was a serious challenge. Later I was told by a seafaring
friend: "you should always park your stern into the wind!" |

The rain is coming almost
horizontally, but it's warm rain. Solva's main street is studded with many
interesting shops, pubs and restaurants. Today, however, it is not awash
with tourists. |
|
The roof glistens with the
recent rain, the walls of this typical Solva cottage are well protected
from the inclement weather with many coats of paint. |

The old chapel has been
converted into into an art gallery. |

A hint of pink... |
| ... a veritable cascade of pink
steps at the side of this house at the end of the main street. |
 |
...a little further on... |

Going back to the car, a
classical stone house and it's gently rusting railings. |
 |
This is my favourite one. It
captures the contrast between the ageing railings and the neat front door. |
