A passing 'Royal': King Edward the First

The spring rains were falling, but a small group of steam train enthusiasts were gathered on a bridge over the railway line near Rhoose in South Wales under glowering skies and steady rain in a brisk south easterly wind. Why? Because we were either steam train enthusiasts or photographers who didn't mind getting soaked in search of a decent photo! I fell into the latter group, but will admit to nearly giving up as the arrival of the King Edward 1st on a day trip to Carmarthen was late and getting later and I was getting wetter and wetter. And then, a distant glimpse of steam followed by the unmistakable noise of a loco working hard as it climbed the incline towards us.

Waiting like real anoraks we were. The first glimpse down my 650 mm lens.

All that water vapour adding to the big cloud factory overhead.

The driver blew the whistle for us (I assume!)

Carrying the Red Dragon name board and a couple of Welsh Flags for the occasion.
All too soon, she was gone, but quite a few middle aged people (mostly!) went away with a childhood experience relived. And why not?

There are some pictures of other elderly steam ladies awaiting restoration elsewhere on my site. Try clicking here.
