From roosters to roasters. Weak link, I know, but we
are back in the dark to see a craftsperson at work in the forge. Many
years ago, I did this kind of work at school under the metalwork banner
at Nelson Secondary Technical school.
It was quite enjoyable, but my skills were certainly
not in the same category as this young man.
His boss came back, all in the costume
finery of the mid 17th century
We saw a number of different types of bellows whilst
in Sturbridge, these were huge overhead ones which are being operated by
his right hand.
Only the 21st century safety goggles spoil the image.
A saw mill drive by water power
Inside again, this time clearly an owner
of substance.
This gentleman was making various items
out of tinplate. That took me back to my metalwork classes of my
schooldays.
Our tour is over, most enjoyable and
informative, especially helped by the knowledgeable craftsmen and women
in period costume.
