I was lucky enough to be asked to deliver some training on behalf of the BBC in Bahrain in November 2009.

I can tell you that its the place to be at that time of year; every day was like the perfect English summers day. All meals eaten outside in a clean, safe environment. Safe apart, that is, from the local driving!

Still, that's what seat belts are for....

Heathrow in the rain. A place to catch some sleep before an early morning flight. It's still raining as we take off.

Somewhere over Europe.

It's a longish flight: 6 hours and a half.

Three movies, a meal and a short sleep!

Doesn't the world always look so beautiful from above?

The sun sets somewhere over our flight path. Or under  our flight path... ...creating a kind of fire effect below us.

Bahrain airport and we are treated to a slightly bizarre sight of Santa on his sleigh.

In a hot Muslim country, how does that work?

Even more bizarre to me was the sight of Camel racing on the hotel telly.

Apparently, a box of radio controlled electrics can 'kick' the camel to encourage it to go faster.

LOL!

These were the Elite Suites in Bahrain where I had a very nice suite on the ninth floor. and on the tenth floor, a superb swimming pool, guests for the use of!

How tempting is that warm, clean water?

Spotted just down the corridor from the pool.

Breakfast was in this super restaurant with a chandelier that must have cost a bob or two.

back at the pool; it was so nice up there.

I had some spare time so set out to explore.

Bi-lingual road signs: we have those in Wales, too.
A building sharp enough to cut yourself on, methinks. That's a Debenhams store over there!

Workers tea break, perhaps?

Hectares of green grass which I didn't expect.

Not very green ecologically though.
