The Vale (of Glamorgan)

...which is the lush fertile area approximately 20 miles by 15 miles lying between Cardiff and Bridgend, the M4 and the coast of the Bristol Channel. Its great cycling territory, and I have explored its many villages and views on many occasions.

autumn-tints.jpg (85311 bytes) The leaves are hanging on later than usual, thanks to a mild and wet October.

This seen on the edge of Hensol Forest.

Autumn Sunlight in Hensol forest

hensol1.jpg (57099 bytes) But then, there was a lot of rain, too. Paddling, of the bovine kind paddling.jpg (101532 bytes)
watery-lane1.jpg (39981 bytes) And this is what happened lower down where the water has burst out into Watery  Lane. An appropriate name, n'est pas? watery-lane3.jpg (16373 bytes) Michael here is attempting the near impossible of cycling through several inches of flooded road (that Watery lane again) and taking an interesting photo at the same time. Clearly I failed in one of these.
A spring always rises in this field throughout the year, but his autumn has really excelled itself. The sheep don't seem to mind.

watery-lane2.jpg (17160 bytes) Exactly the same field but a few days later after the first snowfall

Ponies near Witches Hill horses.jpg (32340 bytes) Four horses. I get a lot of hits on this particular page with 'horses' as the search word. I must put some more horsey pics up!

Just a sad old signpost

even sadder bend sign. This on Witches Hill and the sharpest steepest bend you could wish to avoid.

St. Hilary, with its thatched pub on a cold winters day

and here is the 'Bush' on a bright autumn day.

Draught cider to be had here as well as good pub grub. No, I'm not on commission.

Plas Llanmihangel, a wonderful building in a truly mediaeval hamlet. Just the Plas, the church and the farm. Just a couple of miles from Cowbridge it also does banquets in its wonderful mediaeval dining room. Phone Sue on 01446 774610 will take your booking. She also does a rather classy bed and breakfast.

A few days later, and from a higher viewpoint, this picture was taken in the dying sun of the shortest day of the year.

llanmihangel-2.jpg (46426 bytes) The Plas seen alongside the 'Great Barn' recently converted for a very individual dwelling.
Here is a photomontage of the Great Barn and its outbuildings.

Near Atlantic College, the Severn and view towards Somerset

In January 2008 I received the e-mail below and wonder if anyone can help this gentleman with his question.

My name is Henry Donald Nelson. I have hand written letters by Joseph Nelson in 1832 asking for amounts of money for building work on or at Nash Point. These letter were written to a Company, from what I can make out the company name has several possibilities, Gnet Lives & Co or Gnest Livs Co This Joseph Nelson is a member of my family tree. There has always been Stone mason in the nelson family since 1580 right up to 2000 when the last mason has no son to carry on daughters only.
Can you please tell  me to what involvement Joseph had in the development of Nash Point lighthouse?
Kind regards
Donald Nelson
