South from Conway, there is a magnificent drive with lots of interest in the adjoining hills

In Trefriw, one turns inland up a very steep and narrow road. This beautiful wooded valley contains rushing streams, waterfalls and Crafnant reservoir.

Also from Trefriw, there is a tiny gated road that takes you the scenic way to Betwys y Coed. And, oh how scenic! In case you didn't know, the sheep is king around here. Here is the king outside his castle.

The area has a history of mining. There are signs of copper mining here. Not any more though.

The peace is shattered by some screaming girls being towed at speed behind a motor boat.

Minors, not Miners. Mmmm

On the way back to the car, there was this monument to Taliesyn, Chief Bard of the 6th Century.

You can read it for yourself. Back in the Conway valley, Llanrwyst is a smashing spot for family fun in the river.

At some point in recent winters, however, this spot would be several metres under water in flood water.
