Mid June 2008 and I was on the way to Istanbul at
very short notice to give some advice to a TV station that had recently
been taken over by a new owner. Although I was busy for most of the
time, I did get time to take a few shots in one of my favourite cities.
Twas quite early 7 am as we lifted off from Heathrow
over the reservoirs that are next to the airport.
Monday morning traffic building up on the M25. I was
happy to be snug in an aeroplane.
I do like window seats, it's like a
continuous physical geography lesson just looking down on our small
planet.
Four hours later and I'm being whisked
to my hotel from the airport through this city of 15 million souls.
A bit of building work going on here...
Just a few shots taken from the car
and from the hotel
from the hotel roof...
I liked the contrast of the thoroughly modern wall
alongside the silhouette of an ancient Mosque.
I just love the bridges (two) that link
Europe with Asia. They are always busy and look so familiar to anyone
who has crossed from England into Wales over the 'old' bridge.
Something about a greengrocers stall lit
by dangling tungsten bulbs at night.
The ultimate anachronism, a Mosque rising out of a
Hypermarket.
I thought that this shot of some phone boxes had a
certain 'Je ne sais pas'.
Just a few pics taken from my daily taxi
to work.
This is Kanalturk's Ankara studio. It was a short but
enjoyable visit to the capital city where I had spent so much time in
early 2001. It was so cold and grey then, now it was quite hot.
And this is one of TRT's talented young designers who
just happened to be passing and remembered me from all those years ago.
Trumpet of Jericho is the common name of
this lovely flowering shrub.
We have one in our garden, but it has
difficulty flowering in our cool climate.
