Vancouver Island is big. For Europeans. think the
size of Cyprus rather than the Isle of Wight. I decided to look at the
North of the Island and booked a couple of nights in Campbell River
which sits on the edge of Discovery Sound: route of the huge cruise
liners that journey between Vancouver and Alaska.
I have a friend who works on these floating cities,
the Alaskan cruise is his own personal favourite.
First though, we retrace our steps to Horseshoe Bay
and queue for a lunchtime crossing. With time to spare (we pre booked)
we amble into the settlement itself to while away the time.
A young family is looking for food amidst the muddy
foreshore.
Other ferries ply from here. I love the misty
mountain tops.
An unusual water feature.
An eagle flies overhead, a lone
instrumentalist plays to himself.
Soon, we are on our way. Needless to say I stay on
deck in the cool breeze (wind) to take pictures.
a distant view of Vancouver.
It's very breezy!
E.T. phone home?
Nice skies
The brave take a walk around the deck
Some 'bad boy' comes out to wave at us from Nanaimo
which is now close.
