Welsh St. Donats

...is just a couple of miles from Cowbridge. It has no shops, no pub, one Church of great character and, I guess, 30 houses maximum. It is in an elevated position away from the 'madding crowds' and is populated by people wanting a countryside environment yet near to Cardiff and recreational opportunities such as Hensol Forest, Cottrell Park golf course and yet the M4 is less than 15 minutes away. There is also a 'Great House' as in many villages in the Vale being the 'Manor House' equivalent of an English village.

Right, that's the estate agents blurb, now a few pictures taken one December day around the church.

Welsh-St-Donats-1.jpg (118100 bytes) The church in the Diocese of Llandaff is 800 years old and dedicated to St Donat (Dynwyd in Welsh) Welsh-St-Donats-2.jpg (50444 bytes) This is my favourite picture, capturing the silhouette of the church against a vivid sunset.

The universal Christian symbol stands out against a wintry sky.
